It would be beyond our knowledge and ability to produce a complete field guide to the rich and varied animal kingdom of sri lanka, so we have had to limit the scope of this book to a small selection.

            in doing so, we have chosen the animals that might be encounterd while driving through the countryside,in a garden or house, or during a visit to national park, although it has to be admitted that some of those with nocturnal habits will rarely be seen.
