"Ranil Wickremesinghe is one of the few political visionaries I admire. Having met this less-spoken but intelligent leader on many occasions both inside and outside the Parliament and at Temple Trees, I am fascinated by his calm but steady decisions and behaviour. Regardless of party politics, his interests developing Sri Lanka are clear and vibrant. Compared with other political leaders eager for publicity, only one or two books were written about Ranil and none cover both private life as well as the political leadership in depth. Ranil’s childhood photos are limited in public circulation. Sampath Bandara, a fellow senior journalist attached to Lake House has done a wonderful job filling this vacuum writing Ranil’s political biography. It is a must read, which contains the direction Ranil gave Sri Lanka supported with numbers/ statistics general public will find difficult to have access. Controversial topics including Batalanda and endless plots to remove Ranil from UNP leadership are addressed to a fair extent. But I presume a few other issues could have been included! Although the book, “Ranil Wickremesinghe – a political leadership” is not yet officially launched, Sinhala copies can be obtained at Sarasavi Bookshop. According to Sampath, the English translation will soon be available. But will depend on the availability of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe to be at the launch. I trust readers will find “Ranil Wickremesinghe – a political leadership” an entertaining inside to our Prime Minister’s life and a reference guide to important incidents took place in the political arena since 1970."
